Iowa Biodiesel Board Praises Home Front Energy Independence Act
March 10, 2022
Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) have introduced the Home Front Energy Independence Act, a bill that would pair a ban on U.S. imports of Russian petroleum products with support for U.S. biofuel production to maintain fuel supplies and address prices. Grant Kimberley, Iowa Biodiesel Board executive director, issued the following statement:
“We applaud Sen. Joni Ernst for once again stepping up to lead on legislation that will help biodiesel continue to grow. We also thank Sen. Chuck Grassley for his strong support, as one of biodiesel’s longest-standing champions.
“This is an important energy issue. The events overseas are a painful reminder that we have a short memory and too often take our nation’s energy security for granted. The reality is we must continue to diversify our energy supply with alternatives to foreign oil, and this legislation recognizes that our soybean farmers and biodiesel suppliers offer a viable, low-carbon fuel here and now. Sen. Ernst’s bill includes a biodiesel infrastructure program and extension of the biodiesel tax incentive – common sense policies that the Iowa Biodiesel Board enthusiastically supports. We urge other Members of Congress to support this bipartisan legislation.”
