Renewable Energy Group

Renewable Energy Group, headquartered in Ames, Iowa is an international producer of cleaner fuels and one of North America’s largest producers of biodiesel. REG operates 12 biorefineries in the U.S. and Europe, employing about 900 people, with more than half located in Iowa.

In 2020, REG produced 519 million gallons of cleaner fuel, delivering 4.2 million metric tons of carbon reduction. The company is also a leading producer of renewable diesel, another diesel fuel replacement complementary to biodiesel, with a biorefinery in Geismar, Louisiana.

“REG is an essential part of the transition to a low-carbon economy. As one of North America’s leading biodiesel producers and a global leader in renewable diesel production, we offer customers an immediate and efficient option for greenhouse gas reduction.”
Cynthia J. Warner, President and CEO

The roots of Renewable Energy Group go back more than two decades to when the company operated under the umbrella of West Central Cooperative in Ralston, Iowa. The biodiesel industry was still in its early stages when the company produced its first batch of biodiesel in 1996.

REG President and CEO CJ Warner was named one of Fortune’s top-20 businesspeople of the year in 2020. In addition, the company was named one of Iowa’s Top Workplaces by the Des Moines Register newspaper, based on employee responses to a survey about the REG culture.
